Spring Replacements

Here at Alpha Garage Doors, springs are usually replaced in sets.

When the first spring breaks, the load is quickly shifted to the remaining spring. This applies significantly more tension then what the spring is used to and greatly weakens the steel coil.

Once your broken spring is replaced, the surviving spring (in its weakened state) has to work as efficiently as the new spring, and in an effort to keep up, breaks in the process.

There are several signs that can point to a broken spring. These include:

1. The physical appearance.
2. The opener struggling to open the door, and in some cases stopping completely on the way up. You may also find that it closes with a loud thud.
3. The door is too heavy to lift in manual operation.
4. The panel & tilt door opener is running but the chain is not moving.
5. The tilt door pulls to one side and may jam on the side when attempting to operate the door.

If upon inspection, you find that your spring is broken, stop using the door immediately. Continuing to use the opener with a broken spring, even though it may still work, will significantly increase the load on the motor and may cause it to burn out, greatly increasing repair costs.
